Responsibility

The marmalade (until we find a satisfying local product), the butter, the milk and the juice are however for practical reasons commercial.

The coffee, sugar, hazelnut praline and tea are products from SYN.ALOIS (ΣΥΝ.ΑΛΟΙΣ), a small fair trade partnership. This way we both ensure product quality and earnings for small producers and their communities.

For all consumables and cleaning materials of daily use, we follow the Green Key standards, despite the fact that we haven't got the corresponding certification yet.

This way all disposable paper has not undergone any bleaching. With the exception of the chlorine we use in the toilets, we either use vinegar or other natural and ecological cleaning products manufactured by ΒΙΟΜΕ (a factory owned by the workers, which manufactures natural and environment friendly cleaning products). This way the children can lay down anywhere they like, and no strong chemical residues remain on any surfaces with which we may come in contact.

 

Our equipment

For the renovation of the residences, we employed local craftsmen, wherever the appropriate knowhow was available. We are a village of masons afterall. This way the material and non-material value of the work stayed within our community and within the residences. 

For the reason of protecting the architectural inheritance  of the place, we did not set up any solar panels on the roof tops, nor any satellite dishes. Moreover no additional access ways to the residences were opened up and all unnecessary additions, applied to the building over the years, were removed.

LED technology of all lamps goes without saying and all the legally prescribed energy saving mechanisms have been installed.

In order to reduce plastic packaging waste, we use dispensers and we generally avoid all single-use products.

 

Our community

We are fortunate enough to have some professionals in the village of Lagadia with expertise in sectors related to our own. They cover a range of extra services saving us the need to provide alternatives or having installed any further equipment. All you’ll ever need is already there, in our village and the neighboring ones as well. So if you find anything “missing” from Gileri, be sure that it will be provided by some of the professionals of the area.

For all the work and collaborations that are necessary for your accomondation, we firstly and mostly reach out to the people next to us. After all this is a feeling that is passed on to our visitors too.
